Pepper

Chili peppers from Central America
One kind of pepper is the kind you call chili peppers, green pepper, or red pepper. People in South America were gathering this kind of pepper as early as 7500 BC, not long after people first came to South America. By about 4000 BC, farmers were growing chili peppers in South America.
A third kind of pepper, Sichuan pepper, grew in China, where people also used it to spice their food.
