The invention of clothing for kids

Lice
Body lice

People probably invented clothing about 60,000 years ago, maybe about the same time that the first people left Africa and began walking to Europe and Asia. There isn't actually any clothing left from so long ago. We think that clothing was invented about this time because genetics shows that's about when body lice evolved from head lice, and body lice can only live on clothing.

The earliest clothing was probably furs and leather from animals that people had hunted and killed. Around 40,000 years ago, though, people began to make bone sewing needles, so probably they were sewing their clothes together. The earliest bone and ivory sewing needles are from Kostenki (modern Russia), so maybe people needed to learn to sew once they were living further north in colder places. But at this time they were sewing together pieces of leather or fur, rather than cloth.

Around 6000 or 5000 BC, somebody invented the spindle, and people began to spin hemp and flax and wool into yarn, and then weave the yarn into cloth.
