Muslim India
Around 1000 AD, the Abbasid Arabs who had already conquered Persia (modern Iran) came to conquer India as well. Abbasid troops were able to beat the Indians and take over northern India (this includes modern Pakistan). Little by little, many Hindus and Buddhists in northern India decided to convert to Islam.
The Arabs set up a very successful government in northern India.
In the 1200s, the Mongols under Gengis Khan tried to conquer northern India. For a while they succeeded. But the Islamic rulers managed to get their power back again.
Southern India, on the other hand, never came under Islamic control, and remained Hindu.
