Troy III

The big fire that destroyed Troy II, about 2250 BC, was probably part of an attack on Troy. After that fire, the people who rebuilt Troy seem to have been different people, although related to the Troy II people - maybe a rival town that conquered Troy. The Troy II people who buried their gold treasures when they saw the enemy coming never came back and dug it up, probably because they died in the war or were taken prisoner.

These Troy III people did things a little differently from the Troy II people. They didn't build any palace or fort, but instead they built a crowded little town, with narrow streets running between blocks of houses. Instead of building in mudbrick, the Troy III people built their houses out of stone.

But the people of Troy III are especially known for having been very very messy. They left heaps of oyster shells and deer bones on the floors of their houses (and probably other garbage, but that has rotted away). When their houses got too deep in garbage, the Troy III people just built the walls higher and raised their roofs and kept on living there.

The increase in deer bones might mean that these Troy III people also had a new weapon - the bow and arrow. The bow and arrow would make it a lot easier to shoot deer, so they would be able to eat more deer. Troy III lasted until about 2150 BC - about 100 years.
