Physics Teachers Guide - electricity, space, weather, machines, magnets and more

Physics

Einstein

Kidipede's physics information begins with a discussion of astronomy from the Big Bang to the formation of the Sun and the planets including Earth. Once on Earth, there's a discussion of weather (see also the Geology unit). From there, we have units about the basic forces: electricity, light, and magnetism. Finally, you'll find a brief discussion of the simple machines. For most of the units, there are also a number of active learning projects listed at the bottom of the relevant page. You'll find a list of science fair projects here.

Kidipede's goal for middle schoolers is for them to gain an active understanding of the world around them, rather than to lay foundations for high school and college physics classes. Math and equations are downplayed in favor of real world examples and basic principles. Kidipede tries to give diverse examples which are inclusive of women, minorities, geographic diversity, and the differently abled.
